TIGRE & DELTA AREA TOUR
Tigre is a beautiful city surrounded by nature with an amazing delta, that is one of the biggest of the world with many islands and small rivers. It has an interesting history as it’s port area was one of our country’s most important areas of commerce. Now furniture shops with wood from the delta islands are an important source of the local economy. Additionally, rowing clubs representing different countries and cultures of the world are an important presence in the area. Tigre is on the waiting list to be declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
Start this adventure with a boat ride. In this one hour and 15 minutes you will travel along Tigre, Sarmiento and Lujan rivers seeing its beauties and look at typical weekend houses from modern to ancient, on the delta. You will also enjoy the beautiful view that all the historical rowing clubs offer and also the emblematic Paseo Victorica.On board, you can take advantage of the bar, Wi-Fi access and a 3 different language audio guide.
Following the boat ride, you will visit Puerto de Frutos. This must-see point is very important for Tigre inhabitants and visitor as well as it’s a significant part of their identity. It is known as the largest open-air artisan shopping center in Argentina. People from all over the country come to visit this unique place and buy the best hand-made pieces of furniture.
The tour continues by visiting the most important museum in Tigre and the delta area, Museo MAT. MAT opened its doors to the public in 2006. It operates in a historic building in the delta, the former Tigre Club, and has an outstanding collection of Argentine paintings from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. You will definitely enjoy yourself not only with its incredible architecture but also with the eye-catching pieces of art from both local and international artists.
This is the perfect time to have lunch at a fantastic restaurant by the riverside.
On the way back from Tigre, you will have the opportunity to visit San Isidro’s Cathedral. In this exclusive neighborhood of Buenos Aires its cathedral stands out. It is a breathtaking neo-gothic construction built in 1898 by French architects, with amazing stained glass windows that create a perfect atmosphere.
Last but not least, you will be able to have a look at the Quinta de Olivos, the official residence of our President.
During weekends and holidays you can also visit Villa Ocampo the former mansion of Victoria Ocampo (famous Argentine writer and philosopher). The house is famous for being a place of regular meetings between Argentine writers and distinguished visitors from all over the world invited by its owner.The house has been owned by UNESCO since 1973. It was fully restored in 2003 and is now a cultural center open to the public.
Everything on this tour is highly recommended but can also be personally tailored.
