Beyond the small effort of our organic garden, we feel a responsibility for our neighborhood and it’s architectural heritage. From the very first moment Poetry was conceived, we decided to keep the original facade of the building as a way to maintain history. Following years of stagnation in the late 90s and an eventual economic collapse in 2001, Argentina’s currency devaluation eventually brought on a construction boom that started around 2003. Many historical buildings were destroyed and replaced by inexpensive, creatively and architectural deficient but profitable apartment and office complexes. This was not the vision we had for our building when we purchased it in 2006. We consider it as a cultural inheritance of the community’s past, maintained to the present and to be transmitted to future generations. And so we took on the task, as keepers, to maintain it and transmit the architectural roots of the city. It was not until 2008 that, through the efforts of preservationists, laws were passed forbidding the destruction of buildings constructed prior to 1941.

We hope that our modest initiatives inspire other people and businesses to promote positive social and environmental changes.
